Story: The Mountain Pygmy Possum is a small nocturnal marsupial found in dense alpine rocks and trees, in the Victoria Alpine area and the Kosciuszko National Park in NSW found at elevations from 1300 to 2230m. Hibernating under a thick layer of snow in winter under tree roots and boulders, the Mountain Pygmy Possums are able to survive winter. The species was believed to be extinct. It was not until 1966 that a living individual was found at a ski resort at Mount Hotham in Victoria.
